Psalm 22 – Amazing Prophecies of a Crucified Savior to Come!

I just added an article on the amazing prophecies contained in Psalm 22 about a suffering servant to come who would suffer terribly. He would be close to God from His very birth, and know no sin. Yet he would be captured and surrounded by “dogs”, be mocked and scorned, with people “wagging their heads as they walked by (the cross of Christ).

Psalm 22 - Jesus Crucifixion

As they looked on, they would mock him, and ask Him to come down from the cross if He was truly the Christ, the King of Israel. And please note – this Psalm 22 was written by David over 1,000 years before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. There was no cross back then. There was no practice of crucifixion – that was invented and carried out by the Romans hundred of years later, when Roman began to be a world power and wanted to punish criminals by nailing them to crosses and making an open spectacle of the, Notice the Bible says that “He was numbered with the transgressors”. (Isaiah 53:12)

This amazing Psalm 22 contains so many amazing predictions about Jesus the Messiah that it hard to believe it was written so long before the events, but indeed it was. Here are just some of the predictions contained in Psalm 22, all of which were fulfilled by Jesus of Nazareth in about the year 33 AD:

  • He would be mocked by the religious leaders and soldiers
  • He would be surrounded by people and onlookers “wagging their heads”
  • He would have His hands and feet “pierced”
  • He would suffer several dehydration and all the other effects associated with crucifixion
  • He would be crowned with a “crown of thorns”
  • He would be stripped, and covered with a purple robe to mock His kingly claim
  • The soldiers would divide His garments, and cast lots for His cloak
  • The whole earth will eventually hear of these events
