Astronomy Confirms Scripture – A Blood Moon Occurred on Apr 3, 33 AD

Introduction

There is often the point made by skeptics that Scripture is frequently in conflict with science, and that scientific discoveries rarely confirm the truth of Scripture. But in my experience, the exact opposite is true. Time and time again, scientific discoveries support the truth as documented in the bible. Here is yet another example.

What Does the Bible Say about the Crucifixion and a Blood Moon?

  • Joel 2:31, which speaks of the sun being turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the Lord.
  • Luke 23:44–45 says darkness covered the land from noon to 3pm as Jesus hung on the cross. That evening,
  • Acts 2:20 says the moon “turned to blood,” fulfilling prophecy.

The Most Probable Date for Christ’s Crucifixion?

The crucifixion of Jesus is most commonly estimated to have occurred on April 3, AD 33according to a study by Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. This date aligns with the Jewish calendar, where Jesus’s death would have been on Nisan 14, the day of Passover. While some scholars suggest AD 30 as another possibility, the AD 33 date is more widely accepted.

Astronomy Confirms Scripture: Blood Moon Occurred on that Date!

NASA’s data indicates a partial lunar eclipse occurred on April 3, 33 AD, a date associated with the crucifixion of Jesus. This eclipse would have been visible in Jerusalem shortly after sunset, and the moon’s position would have given it a deep red hue, according to NASA. This finding has led some to believe it aligns with biblical accounts of darkness during the crucifixion and the moon turning to blood.

A More Detailed Explanation:

NASA’s Eclipse Data:
NASA’s eclipse records confirm a partial lunar eclipse occurred on April 3, 33 AD.

Visibility in Jerusalem:
The eclipse would have been visible in Jerusalem shortly after sunset, according to NASA and other locations with the same time zone.

“Blood Moon”:
Due to the moon’s position during the eclipse, it would have appeared reddish or deep red in color, according to NASA a phenomenon sometimes referred to as a “blood moon”.

Conclusion: NASA data confirms a lunar eclipse was visible from Jerusalem that night — a striking alignment of science and Scripture.
